When Scott was told he would need his aortic valve replaced at the age of 42, it came as a very big shock to him and his family. He had been an athlete his entire life and continued an extremely active lifestyle with his wife and three young children. He chose a bioprosthetic aortic valve, but that only lasted 5 years, and Scott began to feel symptoms of heart failure all over again. When it came time to decide on a valve for his second surgery, he wasn’t taking any chances.
